‘USE YOUR VOTE FOR THE NHS’ RALLY ON MARCH 10TH

THE LONDON FEDERATION OF GREEN PARTIES RESOLVES TO SUPPORT DEFEND LONDON’S NHS ‘S ‘USE YOUR VOTE FOR THE NHS’ RALLY ON MARCH 10TH AT HAMMERSMITH TOWN HALL AND AGREES TO ADD ITS NAME TO PUBLICITY ADVERTISING THE EVENT.

END OF MOTION

APPEAL FOR SUPPORT FOR USE YOUR VOTE FOR THE NHS LONDON RALLY RECEIVED FROM DEFEND LONDON'S NHS BY BRENT GREEN PARTY

DEFEND LONDON’S NHS
USE YOUR VOTE FOR THE NHS
LONDON RALLY 10 MARCH
HAMMERSMITH TOWN HALL

We are writing to ask for your support for a London wide "Use your vote for the NHS" rally.

This has been called by a number of London NHS campaigns meeting at the London Keep Our NHS Public coordinating meetings last year.

The rally will bring together campaigns from across London in a very public way aiming to make a big enough splash to help ensure the NHS and our demands to defend it become a key election issue.

Save Our Hospitals (Hammersmith and Charing Cross) campaign has agreed to host it and the council have made Hammersmith town hall available. The plan is for a broad platform of speakers reflecting the campaigns across London.

This needs to be a big event to reflect the scale of the attacks on London's NHS and to help promote successful campaigns to overturn them. It will bring together the mix of members of the public,  health and disability campaigners, health professionals, trade unionists and  politicians working together to defend it.

We have booked Hammersmith Town hall from 7.30pm on March 10th.

We would like to ask your campaign or organisation to back the rally. Please let us know as soon as possible if we can add your campaign’s name to the publicity advertising the event.

If you would like  further information please call  Anne  Drinkell on 07854 467 373

Campaign Against Climate Change: MODEL MOTION FOR TRADE UNIONS ON THE “TIME TO ACT ON CLIMATE CHANGE!” DEMONSTRATION AND CREATIVE MOBILISATION ON 7 MARCH 2015.

MODEL MOTION FOR TRADE UNIONS ON THE “TIME TO ACT ON CLIMATE CHANGE!” DEMONSTRATION AND CREATIVE MOBILISATION ON 7 MARCH 2015.
This branch/region/trades council notes with concern the findings of the latest report by the UN’s Intergovernmental Penal on Climate Change and agrees to support the “Time to Act on Climate Change!” national demonstration and creative mobilisation in central London on March 7th.
It notes in particular the conclusion of the report that “Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, and since the 1950s, many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia. The atmosphere and oceans have warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished, and sea level has risen”.
It also notes the strong recommendation that governments take immediate and concerted action to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to avoid a catastrophic increase in global temperatures of between 4.5 and 6 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial conditions by the end of the century.
In view of this, and the clear evidence that global warming is already affecting the world’s weather patterns, we are dismayed at the failure of governments to reach a binding agreement on limiting emissions and are continuing to implement energy policies that involve the large scale burning of fossil fuels.
It believes that public pressure, including that from trade unions, must be mounted to ensure that this situation is rectified at the crucial COP talks in Paris in December 2015. It further believes that measures like those proposed in the “One Million Climate Jobs” report would not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also, by boosting the economy, offer an alternative to austerity.
The branch/region/ trades council therefore resolves:
  1. To encourage members to join the “Time to Act on Climate Change!” demonstration on 7 March, to take the branch/region/trades council banner, and to contribute to the theme blocks of the demonstration as appropriate to the industries covered by the union -  Transport, Water, Energy, Food, Divestment, and Climate Jobs.

  1. To give whatever assistance it can to any local action to mobilise support for the demonstration and to encourage other trade union bodies in our area to do likewise. This may include contributing to the cost of a coach to take local people to the demonstration.

  1. To affiliate to the Campaign against Climate Change and to send a representative to meetings of its Trade Union Group. [Affiliation fees: branches and trades councils £25, regions and County Associations £50, national unions £150.]

  1. To make a bulk order for copies of the new edition of the One Million Climate Jobs report for sale to members. [Copies can be ordered through the link at http://www.campaigncc.org/greenjobs.]

  1. To notify the organisers of the demonstration of our decision by e-mailing info@campaigncc.org.

None of the mainstream parties, with the honourable exception of the Greens, have really convinced teachers they are going to address the central problems.

Kevin Courtney, deputy general secretary's Facebook posting is below.  I have written about the compatability of Green Party policy on the party website and on my website: http://wembleymatters.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/why-green-party-should-endorse-nuts.html

What is the process for getting formal party backing for endorsing the NUT Manifesto? Would be good to do so in the run up to the election if the union is organising hustings.

Martin Francis

The Observer/Guardian says here that 'competition for the teacher vote is hotting up'.
I don't remember that being said before previous general elections which have always seemed to be about being toughest on teachers. I think this change is, at least in part, down to the NUT's campaigning.
However so far none of the mainstream parties, with the honourable exception of the Greens, have really convinced teachers they are going to address the central problems.
We have to intensify our campaign in all areas, reminding MPs and prospective MPs that there are about 1000 teachers in the average constitunecy.
Please volunteer to lobby your MP and also to help your local association organise hustings meetings and other work around the manifesto.
Just a few teachers going to see their MPs ( go with a mate and explain your workload) will have a big effect.
