RMT Union President: Why
I'm standing for the Greens in Redcar
IT was reported today in The Chronicle, (a local newspaper in NE England
that Peter Pinkney RMT President and the the highest ranking layperson of the
RMT Union, will stand for the Greens in Redcar. (read the full report at http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/rmt-union-president-im-standing-8598307
(acknowlegements to Derek Wall )).
He is reported as describing Labour as
“a sort of reddish Conservative Party” and as stating that “the union has
donated £7,000 to Caroline Lucas, the country’s only Green MP, after the Greens
were supportive of plans to renationalise the railways.”
Ridiculously Labour’s response includes the following bit of silly
attempted green–bashing ““For all those passionate about the green agenda only
Labour has the record and plans to deliver a green government.” Why should this
be credible when they have never done much effective about the climate change
in the past and look set to continue with an austerity light agenda rather
taking up the opportunities for job creation which building a low carbon
infrastructure for Britain could create, ( see http://www.campaigncc.org/greenjobs).
