Unite the Union has today re-affirmed its policy to oppose fracking

Stephen Hall
GREAT NEWS: Unite the Union has today re-affirmed its policy to oppose fracking and to encourage members at all levels of the union to link up with local campaigners to oppose the spread of the industry. The decision represents a big victory for frackivists in the union in the face of increased industry lobbying and attempts to overturn or fudge existing Unite policy against fracking.
Unite the Union, Britain's largest with over 1.5 million members, has today re-affirmed its policy to: actively oppose fracking, to use its influence to prevent fracking operations, and to advise its members not to work on fracking sites, or deliver materials to such operations.

It also agreed to: encourage the Labour Party and Labour Councils to take actions formally opposing fracking, to support local anti-fracking groups, including help with funding, and to encourage members at all levels of the union to link up with local campaigners.

Peter Murry The Green Party Trade Union sends it's congratulations ad support to Unite in taking a principled stand against the stupid and harmful practice of fracking. If fracking can be stopped and jobs created in converting the infrastructure to one based on renewables then Unite's stance could lead to job creation.

Peter Murry I'd also like to mention the role of the Green Party Trade Union liaison officer in speaking at a Unite conference fringe to support this wise decision.
